READ MORE"On a scale of 1 to 5 stars I give the Maryland Pain and Spine Center 6 stars. I see Dr. Vajira Gunawardane for pain management issues and Dr. Ruwani Gunawardane for multiple sclerosis (MS) and migraine headaches. Both have provided me with medical treatments that have transformed my quality of life. Dr. V.G. performed a procedure (Radio Frequency Ablation, RFA) on my cervical spine that reduced pain levels from severe to minimal. Because this was so successful, I soon will be undergoing similar treatment in the lumbar spine to manage lower back pain. Dr. R.G. has prescribed treatments for my MS that have stopped the progression of disease related disability. The most recent treatment (Lemtrada infusions) even has encouraging indications that it may reverse the trend. I would be remiss if I did not include praise for their staff as well. From surgery personnel to infusion center nurses to the receptionists, they are professional, competent and create a cheerful atmosphere unlike any other health care facility I have visited."

"After falling and hitting my neck on a violin case and my head on the concrete floor, I sustained a concussion with lots of complications. Dr. Gunawardane was referred to me through the ER. I was scared, in pain, totally a mess. She took the time to listen, asked many questions and even wrote everything down for me. She also spoke with my daughter and son with my permission and repeated the issue and course of action. Dr. Gunawardane went out of her way to call me and check on my condition even on her hours off. She knew that I was worried about my students since I am a teacher and made sure that a note was written so that my principal could secure a long term sub. Dr. Gunawardane made sure, by personally calling the pharmacy, physical therapist, and muscle therapist, that they were all coordinated and knew what they needed to focus on for me. When my headaches were ragging and cutting through the medication, I called Dr. Gunawardane at home. She was quick to set me up with a pain control doctor and in to radiology for a MRA. It revealed that my brain had vascular damage from the fall that would not be detected by the multiple MRIs and CT scans. She sent me to the ER right away and set me up with the top Johns Hopkins Neurosurgeon. I will be having brain surgery that, had these bleeds gone on undetected, I would have had died. It is my heartfelt experience that Dr. Gunawardane is knowledgeable, also dealing with my Lupus condition, caring, goes beyond the call of duty, and is passionate about helping others. I am a Howard County School teacher who highly recommends Dr. Gunawardane! She saved my life!"

“Dr. Ruwani Gunawardane has been my doctor for the past eight years, and in my opinion she is absolutely the VERY BEST neurologist that I have ever had the privilege of knowing. From her initial diagnosis to my most recent visit she has worked diligently to ensure my improvement. With her extensive knowledge base and her on-going dedication to remaining apprised of the latest advances in the field of neurology she has very successfully controlled the majority of my symptoms and ultimately upgraded my overall health and quality of life. She not only prescribes, but closely monitors each medication to ensure my tolerance is built-up slowly and effectively which allows me to take the medications with little to no side effects. By her being there to actively involve me in understanding my condition (to include the potential difficulties I'll likely encounter as I age) she has provided me with numerous measures and techniques that I can implement and incorporate into my daily life to help myself. Because of her treatment, guidance and medical advice, I have currently regained a much improved level of independence - for which I am overwhelmingly grateful. I have the highest respect for this wonderful physician. I think she is amazing!”
